Term 3 week 2

Our visit to kindergarten

Today we took a little trip to the Papakura West Kindergarten where it brought back heaps of memories  from my old play center and how it smelt a lot like play dough. The whole reason why we went there was because this week most the class was working on a story to give to the little ones. I wasn't there when they started to write and illustrate the stories, but i went along with them anyway and read one of the stories that someone wrote because they weren't there. When we got there we sat down on the mat and then choose a buddy to read to. I got a little girl named Rhythmpreet, who was quite shy and got distracted quite easily but she was a preschooler. We read to our children then we walked back to our school and finished the day with our normal Thursday routine.

Reading

This week for reading we watched our new movie, Hugo which we still have to finish. While we were watching the movie, as always we had to write down notes for our character description.

Writing

We have been focusing on poems lately and this week we looked at Edgar Allen Poe and how he wrote the 1845's Raven. We watched a short film on how The Simpsons recreated it and we then used the film to write our own. I wrote one that was quite funny but i didn't get to finish it therefore i didn't share it. Mine was quite different because it was funny when most of the students wrote scary ones.

Maths

We are focusing on Probability in class and how that works. We are also tutoring other students and telling them about how to use fractions to find the probability of something.

To be continued.......

End Of Term 2 Reflection.

Reading
During novel study in term 2 we focused on character analysis which included physical appearance, relationships, personal traits and growth. We also did main events, mapping, connections and a passage picker which i wasn't there for.

Writing
In writing we first had to create  a narrative for the Elsie Locke competition. Then we had our Writers camp where we were supposed to write 5,000 words. We stayed overnight at school with a year nine class. We did a full report with evidence on a chosen mini beast with a partner and then present it to an audience. Throughout the weeks we did a lot of quick writes which i enjoyed.

Maths
In Maths i started off by learning about the division man and how he can help. Before we start every math session we would do a math version of quick fire where the teacher would call out 15 questions and had to answer them as quick as possible. Then we moved on to our statistics.Where we focused mainly on statistical investigation and statistical literacy. There we learnt to read graphs and draw them. With the investigation we made a survey about what we wanted to change about the school. Then we presented it to the class. Finally we wrote a letter to Mrs Owers.
